Marcel Paterni was a French weightlifter who competed in middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions. He competed at three Olympic Games (1956, 1960, 1964), just missing a medal in 1960 as a middleweight when he finished fourth. Paterni set one world record, in the light-heavyweight military press in 1959, with 150.5 kg at Marseilles in July.
Paterni won two bronze medals at the World Championships, both as a middleweight, in 1958 and 1961. He was more successful at the World Championships, winning six medals, with two silvers in middleweight in 1957-58, two bronzes in middleweight in 1961-62, and two more bronzes as a light-heavyweight in 1960 and 1964.
