Born in Himare, Albania as Pirro Dhima, Dimas emigrated to Greece in 1991, and has since become one of the greatest lifters ever. He has won four Olympic medals, including three consecutive gold medals from 1992-2000, and equaling the feat of Norb Schemansky with medals at four consecutive Olympics. At the World Championships he won four medals, with golds in 1993, 1995, and 1998. He won one European Championship in 1995. As a light-heavyweight, he has set 11 world records. His sister, Odyssea Dimas, is also a national champion weightlifter.
