Biography

Jessie Wadworth and her daughter Brenda both competed in the Double National Round at the 1908 Olympics. Jessie finished fourth while her daughter was ninth. Having been a competitive archer for many years that was to be the start of three successful years for Jessie.

She won the prize for the first best gross score at both the 1909 and 1910 Grand Western Meetings at Taunton and Exmouth respectively, before going on to win the Grand National Meeting at Clifton College, when she was crowned national champion. She also helped Herefordshire win that year’s Ladies’ County Challenge Prize.

As Jessie Brown, she married Henry Alfred Wadworth in 1881. He was the co-founder of the famous Wadworth Brewery in Devizes, Wiltshire.
