Manuchehr Borumand was a heavyweight weightlifter who competed at the 1964 Olympics, and won a gold medal as a heavyweight at the 1966 Asian Games. He was the first Asian lifter to total 500 kg in the era of three lifts. Borumand earned a coaching degree from the Polish Sports Academy in 1976. He retired from competing in 1968 but was head of the Iran Weightlifting Federation 1979-85.
