Kazumasa Hirai had the following podium finishes at major championships: 3rd in the 1976 Olympics Featherweight class (275.0 kg); 3rd in the 1976 World Championships Featherweight class (275.0 kg); 1st in the 1974 Asian Games Featherweight class; 1st in the 1978 Asian Games Middleweight class. He set one featherweight world record in the snatch.
