Ștefan Tașnadi was a Romanian heavyweight lifter who won a silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, albeit in the absence of the dominant lifting nations from the Soviet-bloc. Tașnadi competed in handball and boxing before he took up lifting at age 17 at Clubul AS Clujana. He competed at Los Angeles in 1984 despite serious knee injuries that caused him to retire after the Games. He later became a weightlifting coach and international judge.
