Biography

Austria’s Josef Brötzner had a successful sports career as a Greco-Roman wrestler before establishing himself as a prominent car dealer in Salzburg. Brötzner wrestled for AC Wals where he won 24 Austrian state championships during his career. At a national level he represented Austria at the World Wrestling Championships in 1965 and 1971. A year later Brötzner wrestled in the lightweight category at the 1972 München Olympics but lost his first two bouts and was eliminated.

While competing as a wrestler Brötzner began working in the automotive industry in 1966, earning a dealership with Renault by 1976. By the 1990s he had opened two more dealerships and took over the Chrysler and Jeep brands in Salzburg. In 2002 Brötzner had also taken over the Peugeot brand in the city and was later a nominee for the Business Athlete Award.
