Farag Abdulmun’im made his international début for Egypt at the 1980 Junior World Wrestling Championships where, as a light-flyweight, he won a silver medal in freestyle and came in fourth in Greco-Roman. He reversed those rankings in his first outing as a senior, the 1981 African Championships, while at the 1983 Mediterranean Games he took silver again in Greco-Roman and was fifth in freestyle.
In 1984, Abdulmun’im switched to the flyweight division and became African Champion in freestyle, and also represented Egypt at that year’s Los Angeles Olympics, where he was eliminated in round two of his group. He defended his African title in 1985 and 1986, but was only sixth at the 1987 All-Africa Games. In 1988 he competed as a bantamweight and was fifth at the African Championships, but regained his African title as a flyweight in 1989. He was the African bronze medalist in 1990, which was his last major international medal. He was seventh at the 1991 Mediterranean Games and fifth at that year’s All-Africa Games and did not retire from active competition until 1994. He later worked as a coach, including a stint with the national team.
