After the 1912 Olympics, where Otto Lasanen won a bronze medal in Greco-Roman featherweight wrestling, he also competed at the 1914 Unofficial European Championships, where he was fourth in the featherweight class. Lasanen never won a Finnish title, but as Finland was an autonomous part of the Russian Empire back then, Lasanen won the Russian featherweight title in 1917. He represented Helsinki Jyry and Helsinki Athletic Club at the club level.
Lasanen was actively involved in the workers’ sports movement and won the Finnish Workers’ Sports Federation (TUL) Greco-Roman featherweight title in 1920. In 1929, he was elected as a member of the newly founded Workers’ Sports Unity Committee (TYK), founded by communists who were in opposition to the TUL. From May to July 1930, he served as chairman of TYK. By profession, Lasanen was a chauffeur.
