Biography

Uuno Pelander started wrestling for Vaasan Kisto. After a 2nd-place finish at the 1912 Finnish Championships in the heavyweight division, he was selected for the 1912 Olympics, where he started in the unlimited division. Following a bye in round 1, for unknown reasons he had to compete twice in round 2, and won both. In round 3, he lost by decision against future bronze medalist S. M. Jensen. He did not compete in the next round, maybe because it was scheduled for the same day.

Pelander continued his wrestling career placing 4th at the 1913 unofficial European Championships and claiming his first national title in 1914, both in the light-heavyweight class. Subsequently, he changed his club and won his second and last Finnish Championship in 1916 for Vaasan Vasama.
