George Faulkner was a house painter in Birmingham during which time he competed at the 1908 Olympics in London in the lightweight class of both the freestyle (catch-as-catch-can) and Greco-Roman wrestling events. The sole representative of the Birmingham Athletic Institute to compete at the games, Faulkner unfortunately lost both of his matches, to eventual silver medallist Billy Wood in the freestyle, and to Anders Møller of Denmark in the Greco-Roman. He later worked as an engineering fitter and died in 1974, aged 86.
