William Henson was one of fourteen members of the Hammersmith Amateur Wrestling Club that participated in the 1908 London Olympics. Competing in the lightweight class of the freestyle event, he lost his one and only match to the eventual gold medal winner, George de Relwyskow. A native of Marylebone, London, Henson was a newsagent by occupation. He was also a veteran of World War I, with the Royal Navy.
