A local council gardener in his native Morley near Leeds, Henry Inman was a successful wrestler and weightlifter. A member of the Morley club, he was a North of England wrestling champion in 1913, 1914 and 1915. After serving with the West Yorkshire Regiment in World War I he was demobilized in 1920 and later that year was selected for the Great Britain wrestling team at the Antwerpen Olympics but lost to Randhir Shindes of India in his only bout in the featherweight class. After ending his own career Inman continued coaching local Leeds wrestlers.
