Albert Rose was an active member of the London Amateur Wrestling Club throughout the 1900s and the winner of the British amateur lightweight title in 1905. One of 10 members of that club to participate in the 1908 London Olympic wrestling events, Rose competed in the lightweight class of the Greco-Roman style and lost his only bout to József Maróthy of Hungary. He later remained in the wrestling scene into the 1910s.
The son of Thomas and Emma Rose, he lived the first two decades of his life in the St Pancras area of London where his father worked as a railway engine driver. Rose was a house painter by career.
