Jim Webster of the London Amateur Wrestling Club was the British amateur freestyle featherweight champion in 1908. Participating in that same event at the London Olympics in that same year, he lost in the quarter-final to American George Dole, who eventually went on to win the gold medal. He later received a certificate of special merit for his Olympic performance. A resident of Clerkenwell, Webster later turned professional in October of that same year, and continued wrestling into the 1910s. He served with the Royal Fusiliers in World War I and later worked in an ordnance depot as a fitter.
