Peter Germer was an East German super-heavyweight freestyle wrestler placed sixth at the 1972 München Olympics, just one place behind his West German opponent Wilfried Dietrich. Germer won two bronze medals in earlier international tournaments, the 1969 European and 1970 World Championships. Domestically, he won the national titles in 1969, 1971-72. He later became a very successful coach in his hometown Jena.
