Eberhard Probst was an East German freestyle wrestler who finished eighth and fifth respectively in the lightweight division at the 1976 Montréal and 1980 Moskva Olympic Games. In 1975 he won the silver medal at the World Championships, and in 1979 and 1982 added two bronze medals. He won another silver at the 1974 Europeans, followed by three bronze medals in 1976, 1979 and 1981
From 1975-80 and 1983-85, Probst won the East German national title. In 1984 he started a career as wrestling referee and participated in several major events, including two Olympic Games in 1992 and 1996. He also became a member of the German Referee Committee within the German Wrestling Association.
