Biography
Greco-Roman wrestler Maik Bullmann was eliminated in the group stage of the middleweight division at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, representing East Germany. At Barcelona in 1992, and Atlanta in 1996, he then represented re-unified Germany and moved to light-heavyweight, winning the gold medal in 1992 and bronze medal in 1996.
From 1989-91 Bullmann won three World Championships adding a silver in 1993, and a bronze in 1994. He added another gold at the 1992 Europeans, where he also won four silvers in 1989-90, 1995-96.
Bullmann was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf in 1993, Germany’s highest sports award. In 1992, he won the media prize BAMBI in the category Sports. He was inducted into the International Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2006. He later turned to coaching and became chief national Greco-Roman coach.
