German wrestler Jakob Neser from Ludwigshafen won the 1911 Unofficial World Championships in the heavyweight. He also finished second at the 1913 Unofficial Greco-Roman World Championships as well at the 1912 Europeans. At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics Neser finished fourth after a loss in the pre-final round against Finnish wrestler Yrjö Saarela. Neser was the most notable German wrestler before and after World War I. In 1920, he placed second at the German Championships.
