Biography

Peter Neumair was a middleweight freestyle wrestler who finished sixth at the 1972 Summer Olympics in his hometown München. Four years later, in Montréal he was eliminated in the third round of the light-heavyweight event. Between 1969-80, Neumair won 11 West German national titles in both disciplines.

Neumair also performed well on other international stages. At the World Championships he finished fourth in 1978, fifth in 1971 and sixth in 1975. At the Europeans, he finished fifth in 1972 and 1978, and sixth in 1980, but his silver medal in 1976 was his best performance internationally. By occupation, Neumair was a bricklayer. 1970-80 Neumair was employed at Erdinger Weißbräu brewery. He then worked for 27 years at the Max Planck Institute in Garching as an operating craftsman.
