Freestyle wrestler Karsten Polky was eliminated in the group stage at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, representing East Germany in the featherweight division, At Barcelona in 1992, he then represented re-unified Germany, and placed ninth. At the 1989 World Championships, Polky won a bronze medal and added four consecutive silver medals at the 1987-90 Europeans. Nationally, he won East German titles in 1987-88, and German titles after re-unification in 1991-92.
