Hermann Simon

Wrestler Hermann Simon was eliminated in the second round at the 1928 Amsterdam Games in the Greco-Roman middleweight class. He was the German Champion in 1927 and second in 1930. Simon was one of the most successful amateur wrestlers and amateur coaches in Germany and, after turning professional in 1936, was regarded as one of the country’s best wrestlers technically.

By profession, Simon was a trained butcher and worked for many years in this job. When moving from Koblenz to Hannover he then owned a pub and also worked as a professional wrestler (mostly in Southern Europe), wrestling promoter and, later, a boxing promoter. In Hannover he founded and built up the ASV Siegfried Hannover, one of the most successful wrestling clubs in Germany at the time.
