Biography

Greco-Roman super-heavyweight wrestler Richard Wolff finished seventh at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. His Montréal result led to a dispute with the then national chief coach, Heinz Ostermann, and he retired immediately from the national team. At the European Championships that same year, Wolff had finished an unfortunate fourth. Between 1976-82 he won nine West German national titles in both styles, Greco-Roman and freestyle. By profession, he was a trained car mechanic.
