Perry Keene was educated at Sherbourne School before going to Pembroke College, Oxford. He was ordained into Holy Orders in 1869 and was rector at Lesnewth, Cornwall between 1874-78, before moving to Dean Prior Parish Church in Devon, where he remained for 48 years until his sudden death in 1926. He had taken both the morning service and Evensong, as well as a confirmation class, the day before he died. He wife pre-deceased him by just over two months.
Keene was runner-up in the National Archery Championships in 1897 but was champion the following year when he carried off the Spedding Memorial Challenge Cup. He was an excellent rifle shot, and at Sherbourne also played for the cricket first XI. Away from his sporting endeavours Keene enjoyed writing poetry.
