László Papp

László Papp was a wrestler affiliated with MAC between 1923 and 1944. He achieved his greatest success in 1928, when he won a silver medal in middleweight at the Amsterdam Olympics. He won two gold and three bronze medals at the European Championships. Between 1926 and 1934 he won the Hungarian championship seven times: five times in Greco-Roman and twice in freestyle. In addition to wrestling, he also competed in boxing and weightlifting. In the latter, he also won a national championship title in 1932.

After completing his active sports career, he was the head coach of the Hungarian wrestling team between 1935 and 1944. Miltiades Manno created the sculpture “Wrestling” of him and Béla Varga, which won a silver medal at the art competition in 1932. In addition to his life in elite sports, he graduated from Pázmány Péter University in 1928 with a law degree. He began as a court intern and retired in 1971 as a Supreme Court judge. He is not to be confused with László Papp, the three-time Olympic boxing champion.
