Antal Rizmayer

The Rizmayer family had six boys who were all strong, muscular, and skilled, therefore they chose wrestling. Antal Rizmayer proved to be the most successful of them all. He won his first national championship medal, a bronze, in 1959 in the welterweight category in freestyle wrestling. Later, Rizmayer was more successful in Greco-Roman, winning two individual championship titles (1964, 1967), and five championship silver medals. In 1964, he had to defeat his own brother, György, in the final for the gold medal. From 1961 he wrestled for the FTC.

Rizmayer was a permanent member of the Hungarian national team for 10 years, representing his country at two Olympics and three World Championships. He finished seventh at the 1960 Roma Olympics and fifth at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. In 1973, after the championship, he did not go training for a week with him resting. The FTC leaders took this as a blow and told him that they did not need him. He then went to MTK, where he wrestled for another three years. Following the family tradition, his sons Antal and György also became national wrestlers.
