Biography

Ödön Zombori was almost equally successful in both wrestling styles even though he won his Olympic medals in bantamweight freestyle. He and his brother Gyula Zombori both competed at the 1932 Games in Greco-Roman and freestyle, however, in different divisions. In 1936 at his third Olympics, Ödön Zombori finally won gold. He was European Champion in 1931 and 1933, placing third in 1930. In 1948 he immigrated to Argentina, just a short time before the Communists seized power in Hungary. In 1956 at Melbourne, Zombori coached the Argentinian team. He later lived in Los Angeles but returned to Hungary in 1985.
