Biography

Dante Bertoli was an Italian bantamweight Greco-Roman wrestler. In addition to participating at the Berlin Games, he placed fifth at the 1937 European Championships in Budapest. He won three national titles, the Greco-Roman and freestyle bantamweight titles in 1934 and 1936, respectively, and freestyle featherweight in 1940. Bertoli also won the Italian Greco-Roman team title in 1942 and 1943 with Vigili del Fuoco, where he was also a coach. After the war Bertoli continued coaching activity with the G.S. Roma Vigili del Fuoco.

Bertoni, between 1946-55, served the Italian Wrestling Federation as a member of various technical commissions and in 1957 was appointed president of the Coaching Commission. He was the director of the wrestling competition at the 1960 Roma Olympics. Bertoni was honoured with the Sporting Merit the CONI Bronze Star in 1970, and the Medal of Honor of the Federation in 1982.
