Biography

Tibor Cselkó was introduced to basketball when he was in high school. Due to his skill and height, Cselkó was immediately noticed by MAFC, where he first got a place in the youth team, and then soon found himself among the adults. In 1950 and 1951 he was a member of the championship team before winning his third championship title in 1956.

Between 1950 and 1956 Cselkó played 37 times for the Hungarian national team. He was a member of the team that finished ninth at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. At the European Championships, he won a silver medal in Moskva in 1953 and a gold medal in Budapest in 1955.

Cselkó was an architectural engineering student at the Budapest University of Technology from 1950 to 1954. Between 1954 and 1956 he worked as a design architect of the Construction Company. Despite the promise of the sports management, the 1955 European champion men’s basketball team was not considered as part of the delegation traveling to the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. After the suppressed revolution Cselkó left for England in 1956, working in various architectural offices in London. In addition to work he also played basketball, winning the championship seven times with the YMCA London team and winning the cup three times. He also worked as a coach, and in 1957/58 he was the coach of the English national team.
