Nigerian freestyle wrestler Amos Ojo joined the Ogun State Wrestling Association (OSWA) in 1976 and competed internationally over the next two decades. In addition to being a six-time national champion, Ojo had an impressive record in wrestling tournaments across Africa. In 1981 he won his first gold at the African Wrestling Championships in the -48 kg class, before winning four more golds (1988–90, 1992) and two golds at the All-Africa Games (1987, 1991). In 1988 he competed at the Seoul Olympics, but lost in the first round to İlyas Şükrüoğlu (TUR). He returned to the Olympics four years later for the Barcelona Games, but again was eliminated early after two straight defeats. Ojo later served as the head coach of the OSWA until his retirement in 2010, with him then serving as the association’s technical adviser. Outside of wrestling he was an ordained pastor.
