Filip Borlovan was born in Lugoj and wrestled with the local CS Vulturii club. One of the pioneers of the sport in his native country, Borlovan won multiple national titles in the lightweight (1930, 1933, 1934, 1936), welterweight (1939) and middleweight (1947) classes in a career spanning just under two decades. He also won gold and silver medals at a tournament held in Istanbul, Turkey in 1932 and 1935 respectively. In 1936, he was chosen as one of five members of Romania’s first Olympic wrestling team. Competing in the lightweight Greco-Roman event, he was eliminated in the third round by eventual gold medallist Lauri Koskela of Finland.
