Biography

In the public records, Edvin’s surname is spelled Mathiasson, but he himself usually wrote Mattiasson. He represented the Malmö club GAK Enighet in 1912 when he wrestled at the Olympics in the lightweight division (<67.5 kg) and won a bronze medal. Despite a loss in round three against Finland’s Volmar Wikström, three consecutive wins and a bye promoted him to the final round, where he was thrown by the future gold and silver medalists, Gustaf Malmström and Emil Väre. However, he never made the podium at national championships. With his wife he lived in Malmö, where he died in 1975.
