Biography

Rudolf Svensson won two silver medals in 1924 as a light-heavyweight in both styles. In 1928 he competed as a heavyweight in Greco-Roman, winning gold. He returned to light-heavyweight in 1932, again winning gold. The Stockholm firefighter thus became one of the most successful wrestlers in Olympic history. Svensson was also European Champion in 1925 and in 1933 as a light-heavyweight Greco-Roman. He won two silver medals at the World Championships, and three at the European Championships, all in Greco-Roman. In Sweden he won seven championships between 1926-36. Svensson later played small roles in a number of movies. He was inducted into the International Wrestling Fall of Fame in 2005.
