Biography

Josef Urban finished fifth in 1928 before he succeeded winning silver in 1932 both in heavyweight Greco-Roman. His first national title came in 1925. Starting in 1926, he won three medals at the European Championships, silver in 1926 and bronze in 1927 and 1928. He had joined the police force shortly after World War I and worked as a police officer and traffic warden. Urban was only able to travel to Los Angeles thanks to a collection taken up by his colleagues. In 1934 he finished his active career and worked as a coach until his death.
