Tevfik Kış competed in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1960 and 1968 Olympics, winning gold in 1960 as a light-heavyweight. Kış was World Champion at 87 kg in 1962 and 1963, adding a silver medal in 1966. He was also European Champion in that class in 1966. In 1959 Kış won gold at the Mediterranean Games and silver at the Balkan Championships in Greco-Roman light-heavyweight.
Kış lived in Ankara where he ran a restaurant and was a trainer with the Turkish national team. He also co-founded the Turkish Wrestling Foundation and served on its board. In 2011 he was inducted into the International Wrestling Hall of Fame.
