Biography

Nazar Albaryan became interested in wrestling in 1959 following his graduation from the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture. Albaryan won the USSR Youth Championship in 1961 and 1962 before competing at six national championships from 1962 to 1971. In 1968 he became the first Armenian freestyle wrestler to compete at the Olympics when he fought in the flyweight division at the Mexico City Games. Albaryan won four of his five bouts in Mexico to finish in fourth place overall.
