Michael Baker-Harber was the son of James Baker-Harber, a squadron leader in the Royal Air Force (RAF), and fine cricketer. Michael’s chosen sport was sailing, and in 1971 he was a member of Robin Judah’s Soling crew at the pre-Olympic Regatta at Kiel. However, Judah and his two-man crew never went to München for the 1972 Games.
Four years later, at the 1976 Montréal Olympics, Baker-Harber finished 13th in the Soling Class along with Barry Dunning and Iain Macdonald-Smith (the Flying Dutchman gold medallist with Rodney Pattisson in 1968).
A solicitor by profession, Baker-Harber was president of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association from 2003-06.
