Hamburg-based German sailor Egon Beyn claimed the 1939 World Championships in the star class together with non-Olympian Walter von Hütschler. At the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics he competed in the 12-feet one person dinghy and came fifth. Between 1934-36 he was the skipper on the yacht Germania II which was one the six yachts owned by the famous industrialist Krupp family.
