Biography

Born into a family with a passion for sailing, Martín Billoch took up the sport from a young age with help of his older brother. In 1974, when he was just 15-years-old, Billoch became the first sailor from Argentina to win in the Optimist class at the World Championship. He went on to compete in multiple competitions in a variety of sailing classes, finishing runner-up at the World Championships in both the Cadet and Two-Ton events. From there he then specialised in the 470 class, finishing as a two-time runner-up at the European Championships, in addition to competing at 14 World Championships. In 1995 Billoch won bronze in the 470 at the Pan American Games, before finishing seventh in the event one year later at the Atlanta Olympics.
