Biography

West German sailor Joachim Griese partnered Michael Marcour in the two person keelboat (star) event at the 1984 Long Beach Olympic sailing competition. Despite being disqualified in the first regatta, the pair went on to win the silver medal behind the US duo.

With his former partner, and the non-Olympian Jürgen Homeyer, Griese won the national title in 1980. With Marcour he won two more silver medals at the 1983 World and European Championships. In 1985 Griese and Marcour and Outsider were part of the successful German team in the Admiral’s Cup. By profession, Griese was a lawyer and real estate agent.
