Harry Wyndham Jefferson was one of largest dealers in the Consols (Bonds) market on the London Stock Exchange. A very wealthy man, he lived in the luxurious Berkeley Square district of London. Most of his sailing was done on the south coast of England, in the Solent. At the 1900 Paris Olympics, Jefferson, along with Howard Taylor and Edward Hore won the gold medal in the 3-10 ton class aboard Bona Fide. Two of Jefferson’s best-known yachts were the 5-ton Emereld, which finished second in the Toulon leg of the Mediterranean Series in 1900, and the 30-foot Sunfly which won three races, and finished second no fewer than 24 times, in the 1902 season. Jefferson died in 1918 after a long period of ill health. His son Lionel, a major with the Royal Army Service Corps, was killed in action in the Middle East in 1941. Harry Jefferson’s ancestry can be traced back to the 12th century.
