Hamburg-based German sailor Eric Laeisz was a crew member of the 6-metre yacht Pan which had to withdraw after the fourth race at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. Laeisz was a ship owner, and co-owner of the current shipping company F. Laeisz in Hamburg. Between the two World Wars, he led the shipping company alone after his brother Herbert Ferdinand was killed in action during World War I.
