Biography

Didier Poissant took up sailing at the age of four and had his greatest international achievement in the sport when he won the 1954 Snipe European Championships. Two years later he was selected to represent France in the Finn Class at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where he finished 13th overall in a field of 20 competitors. A national champion in both France and Sweden, he continued to compete in both countries for many years, but never again attended the Games. As he got older, he began entering master’s class events and continued to compete in these into the 2010s. By career he was a businessman who ran his own company in his native France.
