Carlo Rolandi competed in several sailing disciplines, but was probably best known for his participation in the Star class. He was twice European champion in this category, in 1959 with Agostino Straulino and 1965 with the non-Olympian Alfonso Marino. He also won two North African Championships in Star, and five Italian Championships. He competed at 10 editions of the Star World Championships from 1948 through 1967, with a best finish of fourth, alongside the non-Olympian Roberto Ciappa, in 1956.
His only official appearance at the Olympic Games came in 1960, when Rolandi just missed the podium in fourth in the Star class with Straulino, but he served on the jury at the 1984, 1988, and 1992 Olympic tournaments. He also held numerous administrative appointments, including the presidency of the Italian Sailing Federation from 1981 through 1989 and membership on the World Sailing Review Board from 1991 through 2010. He also helped found the Circolo Canottieri Napoli, a prestigious Italian sailing club, serving as its President from 1972-74. Rolandi’s career was as an accountant.
