Biography

Jason Stoltenberg was an Australian tennis player who played professionally from 1987 to 2001. Stoltenberg achieved a career-best singles ranking of #19 in the world in October 1994, and a doubles ranking of #23 in the world in March 1991. As a junior player he won six Grand Slam titles but never emulated his success as a senior.

Stoltenberg had a promising start to his career when he won the boys’ singles title at the 1987 Australian Open with a straight sets victory against Todd Woodbridge. The two players then formed a formidable doubles partnership, winning five boys’ doubles titles with victory at the Australian Open (1987–88), Wimbledon (1987–88), and the French Open (1988). On the ATP Tour Stoltenberg won four singles titles between June 1993 and May 1997 and five doubles titles between May 1990 and January 1993.

At Grand Slams Stoltenberg reached the singles semi-finals at Wimbledon in 1996 where he lost to the tournament’s eventual winner Richard Krajicek. In the doubles Stoltenberg reached the quarter-finals at all four tournaments apart from the US Open. He was also reached two quarter-finals in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon. Stoltenberg competed in the singles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics where he beat Sule Ladipo in the first round before losing to Kenneth Carlsen in the next round.
