After World War II, he was appointed chairman of the Hayama Yacht Club, which was the successor of the Shonan Yacht Club. Hayama in Kanagawa prefecture claims to be the origin of yachting in Japan. Takarabe replaced Kazuhiko Tatsuno, who was unable to attend, as Takuo Mitsui’s partner in the Star class at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
