Biography

Theodor Thomsen finished sixth with the 6-metre class sailing team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics at Kiel, where the sailing events took place. The boat was disqualified in races two and five, otherwise it would have won a medal. Only a few weeks earlier the yacht won the German national title. In 1942 Thomsen won his second German title, also with a 6-metre boat. Thomsen competed in the 1952 and 1956 Olympics and in the three-man Dragon class each time. In 1952 he won the bronze medal with the boat Gustel X, and in 1956 he finished 10th with the same crew at Port Phillip Bay. Thomsen later became director of the Gerling concern in Kiel, one of the biggest insurance companies in West Germany.
