Biography

After being selected for the one-man Finn class at the 1960 Olympics ahead of such notable sailors as Adelchi Pelaschier and Pippo Dalla Vecchia, Bruno Trani finished 14th in a field of 35, which was won by the legendary Paul Elvstrøm).

Trani later embarked on a career as a technician, excelling in the Finn class, where he became acknowledged as the father of future generations of Italian sailors, like Francesco De Angelis, Luca Devoti, Paolo Semeraro, Emanuele Vaccari, and many others. Known by all for his technical and human qualities, Trani had been part of the technical team of the FIV (Italian Sailing Federation) for three decades, and participated in the 1984 and 1988 Olympics in that capacity. He was also one of key men at the legendary Centro Preparazione Olimpica (CPO) of Livorno. Trani was also heavily involved with the Società Vela Oscar Cosulich (SVOC) for many years and, just a few days before his death at the age of 94, he attended a meeting at the club.
