Along with Hans-Joachim Berndt and Friedrich May, Norbert Wagner sailed in the three-person keelboat Soling class at the 1972 München Olympics. The West German boat finished 11th in Kiel. Wagner’s brother Eckart and his niece Kristin were also Olympic sailors.
During his active career, Norbert Wagner won more than 400 races, and later started coaching at his home club, Tutzinger DTYC. His father Johannes was World Champion in 1939 and qualified for the 1940 Games, which were not held due to World War II. Together with his brother Eckart, he established one of the best-known sail making companies in West Germany.
