Biography

Erica Willis was an Australian track and field athlete who specialised in the long jump. At the 1951–52 national championships Willis finished second in the event before going on to become the Australian champion in 1955–56. This result earned her a place on the Olympic team for the 1956 Melbourne Games. At the Games she jumped 5.64 metres in the qualification round, just six centimetres short of the mark needed to advance to the final. The following year she finished third in the pentathlon at the Australian championships. Willis was also a keen basketball player who was a life member of the Newcastle Basketball Club in Broadmeadow, New South Wales.
